Our Story

Why we build decks for a living

We build and repair decks around Tustin, mostly for homeowners who want their backyard usable again instead of a place they avoid because a board might give. Most of us came up doing framing and general carpentry before narrowing down to decks specifically, because it's outdoor work you can see and touch when it's done. We still enjoy walking a finished deck at the end of a job more than a lot of the work we used to do inside houses.

The thing we see most often is a deck that looks fine from six feet away but has a soft spot near the stairs or a ledger board pulling away from the house. That gap behind the ledger is where water gets in, and it rots the rim joist from the inside before anyone notices from the yard. We re-flash and re-bolt that connection on every repair and every new build, because it's the one detail that decides whether a deck is still solid in five years or needs to be torn apart again.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed & Insured

Ask for our license number and current insurance certificate before we start, we'll hand them over without a fuss. If a tool or a footing hole causes damage on your property, our coverage handles it, not your homeowner's policy.

Permits Handled

Any deck over 30 inches off grade requires a permit and an inspection in most Orange County cities, and we handle that paperwork instead of leaving it on you. We build guardrails to the 36 inch height code and space balusters so a 4 inch sphere can't pass through, because that's what the inspector checks first.

Clean Job Sites

Deck demo produces a lot of splintered wood and bent nails, and we bag it and haul it out rather than leaving a pile in your side yard. We run a magnetic sweep for stray screws and nails before we call a job done.

Written Quotes

The quote lists the decking brand, the joist spacing, the footing depth and the fastener type, not just a lump sum. That way you know if we're pricing composite or pressure-treated pine before the crew ever shows up.

Our Own Crew

We don't hand the framing to one crew and the staining to another. The people who cut your joists know exactly how your ledger was flashed, which matters when it's time to seal the boards around it.

Know the Local Ground

Clay soil in this area shifts more than people expect, so footings that aren't deep enough will heave a post over a couple of seasons. Full sun most of the year means we steer people away from dark composite decking that gets too hot to walk on barefoot.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about us and how we work.

How long have you been building decks?
Deck-specific experience matters more than years alone, since a crew that has specialized in decks tends to catch issues that a general remodeling contractor might miss, like ledger flashing done wrong or footings poured too shallow for the local soil. Ask any contractor how many decks they've built in the past year, not just how long they've been in business overall.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
Some deck companies use the same in-house crew from framing through finishing, while others subcontract out the concrete footings or the staining. Working with the same crew throughout the job usually means fewer miscommunications about how something was built underneath before the finish work starts.
Can I see examples of past deck work?
Most deck contractors can show photos of completed projects, and some can point to a build in the same neighborhood that's a few years old, which is a good way to see how the decking material has actually held up to local weather. Ask specifically for examples similar in size or material to the deck being planned.
Why hire a smaller deck-focused contractor instead of a large remodeling company?
A smaller, deck-focused contractor typically has the owner or lead carpenter on site rather than passing the job through several layers of project managers. That often means faster decisions on site when something unexpected comes up in the framing.
Where are you based?
This deck building and repair service is based in Tustin, California, and serves surrounding Orange County communities within roughly a 50-mile radius.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Scheduling depends on the season, since deck projects tend to book up faster in spring and early summer ahead of peak outdoor season. Getting a quote and getting on the schedule a few weeks ahead of when the work is wanted is generally a safe bet.
Do you clean up the site when the job is done?
Full cleanup, including hauling away old decking, cut-offs, packaging and stray fasteners, is standard practice for a finished deck job. A magnetic sweep for nails and screws is worth asking about specifically if there are kids or pets using the yard.
What happens if something gets damaged on my property during the work?
A licensed and insured deck contractor carries liability coverage that handles accidental damage to the home, landscaping or an existing structure during construction. This is one of the main reasons to confirm insurance before work begins rather than after something happens.
Will you finish a deck that another contractor started or abandoned?
Picking up a partially built deck means first inspecting whatever framing and footings already exist, since work done to a different standard or left exposed to weather may have to come out before continuing. Most experienced deck contractors will take these on, but expect an honest assessment before a quote is given.
How can I tell the work is being done correctly while it's happening?
Checking that footings are poured to the depth and diameter called for in the permit, that joist hangers are nailed or screwed at every hole, and that the ledger board is flashed before decking goes down are all things a homeowner can visually verify during construction. Most local building departments also require an inspection at the framing stage before decking can be installed, which is a built-in check.
